well, it IS what you love about Domino...but nothing new

Brilliant!
More often that not decorating books are just eye candy; after read them once you are satisfied but done. This is NOT the case with domino's first book. The domino team has managed to create a book that you will keep reading it again and again. It is simply brilliant!Even though I have kept every issue of domino and go through them regularly, the book's format allows for a deeper approach to domino's mission. They have really worked hard to make the book into a usable tool. With more than just pretty pictures and stories, this book provides a framework for how to think about putting together a room (and yes their is new content).I am only disappointed in two ways: 1, I wish the book referenced the issue each in which each room originally appeared and/or provided information about the products in each room. Perhaps there was not enough space, but access to information is one of my favorite parts of domino's monthly. 2, They also overlooked closets as room. And...

It's obvious that this original and vibrant book was designed with great craft and care to be useful to the apartment dweller or home-owner who is looking for direction on where to begin in decorating their space. The following styles are highlighted: simple, natural, modern, flea-market, colorful, floral, eclectic and modern glamour style. There are helpful guidelines in how to create each of these styles in a home. In "Attention to Detail" you'll see accessorizing tips for mirrors, lighting, pillows, flowers and table settings. The styles represented are fresh and vibrant; this book should appeal to folks who like modern, vintage, flea-market, DIY, urban, retro, cottage, rural, industrial, bohemian, global, mid-century, heirloom, Apartment Therapy, eclectic and any variation on these themes. These are real homes in which you can easily imagine folks living. It is fun to see designers Jonathan Adler & Simon Doonan's home and Vicente Wolf's loft in the mix. If you've ever...
Eye Candy...
I won't lie. I buy a LOT of books. Home Decor books are a favorite. This one has earned a spot on my coffee table (a spot I reserve for the best of the best). Buy it. Read it. Absorb the ideas. I think you'll love it. I know I did. :)

Full of great idea but bad in cloud and not for e-reader only
The Design cookbook had gorgeous pictures and a lot of great ideas. In the cloud the print is so small as to be unreadable, and it won't come down to an e-reader at all. I don't have a tablet but my friend who does says it's really for a Fire and not the e-reader.The design ideas are doable, the author seems to understand not everyone has unlimited rooms or budget and that rooms not only need to be beautiful but functional. The wall treatments and pictures were really good, as someone who really is lost when facing a blank wall I now have some cool ideas. My favorite chapter might be the bathroom chapter, so many cool bathrooms. I want Jim to make me the wooden mirror frame with the little jutting trough for putting the toothbrushes and such, great idea for a small bathroom lacking storage! This book is full of tips, ideas, pictures, inspirations..BUT do be aware it's hard to read in the cloud because of fine print and doesn't work on an e-reader at...
May be ok in print but terrible e-book
There are lots of nice pictures and you can read section heads but the content (body text) is totally unreadable on a 9 inch tablet running Kindle for Android. It locks into landscape, full screen, no zoom. All I can figure out is it's a bunch of landscape pictures, not an e-book.
Decadent
This design book is DECADENT!! Kelly's style is unique and rich with character! There are many design ideas in the book that I have never seen before. My favorite is the mounted folding chairs on the wall in the dining room! LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! Highly recommend this book for anyone who wants their home to be more stylish, yet not have to stress out about it! Simple and easy instructions!

Great "Go-To" Book
I have her book on my living room table just as i have my favorite cookbook in my kitchen. Yes, I have an imagination of my own but it's nice to just flip a page and WaLa!! Sabrina has a certain spunk to her (like on her shows) that almost comes alive through the pages. The images in the book are just lovely, vibrant and inspirational. More often than not decorating books are just eye candy. Once I read them, i'm either satisfied, dissapointed or just DONE. Like i said in my title, this is an everyday "Go-To" book. Enjoy!!
Good book, but missing some key info
I love Sabrina Soto and have watched her on HGTV's "Get It Sold", "Real Estate Intervention", and "Hi Low Project", so I am surprised about some if the information she left out of this book.First the good part: She does a good job of giving very broad concepts such as define what you want to feel in your room, sketch out the living space, and proceed from there to pick a color, furniture, texture, and accessories. There are also some good hints like arranging accessories in odd numbers, etc.I felt she missed the mark in the color area because she mentions how many people are afraid of choosing color but doesn't do much more than state some moods evoked by certain colors and lists a couple examples of popular design color combinations. I think she should have illustrated more on how she decides on a color, listed some of her favorite popular colors (there are several she mentioned as using over and over in her TV shows), and finally taken examples of rooms...
LOVE this book!
This book is amazing! Beautifully illustrated with SO much info that you just want to linger over each page. Sabrina has really packed all of her design knowledge into this manual -- it's the ultimate road map to perfecting your home design. The book is broken down into eight chapters or "layers", i.e., planning your design, colors, surface treatments, integrating storage, editing furniture, textiles, lighting and accents, which makes it easy to look for the design component you are trying to master. The narrative is conversational yet authoritative, and Sabrina manages to let her vivacious personality shine - even through text! If you like watching her shows on HGTV, you'll love reading this book. This isn't simply a how-to book, but a gold mine of decorating ideas and a springboard for formulating your personal decorating style. I think the best part is, she incorporates her HGTV High-Low experience by offering design tips that don't break the bank. She says you don't...

Any good home decorating contests worth entering?

May 19, 3711 by laworder825 | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling

Anyone know of any good home decorating contests I can enter? I'd like to redecorate my bedroom in my home. Maybe one in which they come in and redecorate for you, but any will do.

An obvious one is hgtv. I think they are currently launching a dream home give away contest. Although, I think that's a little different than what you mean. However, here's the link:

How can I get on a home decorating TV show?

May 27, 2006 by deedeedonuts | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling

I live in N.H. and recently bought a condo. I would love to get on a home decorating show. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get on one, and does anyone have any suggestions for which one? Thanks!

i would suggest trading spaces (if you have any friends that could use the same decorating help) or perhaps design on a dime? go to hgtv.com or tlc.com and find some shows..sign up for one, and post pictures of your rooms and things...that should get

Mary Carol Garrity: Fresh patterns for spring decorating

31.12.69
Spring is just around the corner, and one of the best ways to celebrate the season of new beginnings is to mix some of today's fresh new fabrics into home decor. If you're closer to my age, chances are when you see chevrons you are reminded of the flame-stitch patterns that were so popular back in the day. * Walk on the wild side  -- Animal prints still thrive in the jungle of home-decorating fabrics. I love a chevron mixed in with more traditional fabrics in pillow arrangements, whether on a sofa or bed, to give the overall look more zip. Designers keep reinventing these wonderfully textured patterns so they are fresh and vibrant, a perfect way to give living spaces a bit of unbridled energy. It's fun to see their faces light up when they walk into stores and see fireball chairs. When you decorate with animal prints, don't  overboard. Often, just a pillow or two is all you need to mix things up a bit.

Decorating tips for making a rental space your own

31.12.69
The first step is to go all in. “So often people think of their rental as not theirs, and therefore go through life not creating a beautiful home or nest,” says designer Kyle Schuneman, author of “The First Apartment Book: Cool Design for Small... As an Army wife, Hoffs has lived in many rental properties around the country and has learned to decorate each one as if it were truly hers. A rented apartment or house can be a wonderful place to live, and a challenging place to decorate. Home decorating blogger Wanda Hoffs gives the same advice to her readers at recreateanddecorate. Some even ask renters not to nail anything to the walls. How can you inject some of your personality into a rented space without enraging your landlord. The restrictions are many: Landlords often want their white walls to stay white.

And then we left and didn’t come home for a year, so that didn’t make her any happier. “My mum wasn’t too crazy about the Doctor when they first met,” Rose confided with a trace of a sad smile. The police had stopped by the previous week to see if anyone remembered anything about the postman’s disappearance, but had come up with no new clues. The replacement postman Rose had described was found working on the other side of the city, and proved just as unhelpful. It had taken several days for her to grasp the mechanics of time travel and how Rose had met Jim as a child with the ” Rose forced away the pang she always felt when she thought about Jackie.  The books are beautiful, dreamy, collage-like volumes that intersperse quotes, favorite books, photos of style mentors, images of works of art, and beautiful details of everyday life with images of the rooms they design for clients.  Interior designer Suzanne Rheinstein owns one of the prettiest home decor shops in Los Angeles.  Suzanne hosts elegant evenings that feature interior designers who have written design books.
